Home cup match

A first cup game of the season for Roach Greens and what a good game.

The pre-match team talk was about closing down the opposition and not letting them play. The game started evenly but after 7 minutes, Hyde took the lead. They followed up with a second goal 9 minutes later and it looked like it wasn't going to be Roach Greens' day. But then the intensity was raised and Roach Greens dragged themselves back into the game. Good work by Alex in the 25th minute saw him square into the box for Logan to tuck it away. This seemed to spur the lads on and just 6 minutes later, another cross, this time from Jailson, saw Ewan equalise from close range. 2-2 at half time.

Half time team talk was about keeping up the pressure and forcing the mistakes.

12 minutes into the second half though, a Hyde player was given too much time on the ball and slotted a good goal into the corner of the net. Roach pushed again. Jailson got a free kick about 35 yards out and, but for a great save by the Hyde keeper, would've scored a goal of the season contender into the top corner. Just moments later though, Jailson got his reward when he shot from outside the area and nutmegged the keeper for a Roach equaliser. Unfortunately, a lapse in concentration meant that Hyde went straight down the other end from the kick off to go ahead, yet again. Roach Greens refused to lie down though and in the 63rd minute, another good assist from Alex saw Ewan hit a sweet half volley past the keeper and into the Hyde goal. Both teams pushed for a winner but in the end, a draw was probably the right result.

Man of the match awards went to Harvey who had another brilliant game at the back, Jailson who kept his head and let his football do the talking, and Alex who plugged away all game and also grabbed 2 assists.
