Match Report - BURY SPORTS ACADEMY U13 REDS - 25 Sep 2021

A difficult result to take against a well organised team.

Going into the game with two players missing due to injury and illness, Roach Greens were forced into a change of formation, playing several players in positions not really familiar to them. In the first half, the game was well contested but the extra quality showed from one or two of the Bury Academy players, making life very difficult for the Roach defenders. James was a big presence in the Roach goal, coming out well and commanding his area but in the 8th minute, some defensive naivety led to Bury being played onside and able to slot home the first goal. Roach were getting some joy on the right wing through Ewan and had a couple of chances which unfortunately never ended up in the net. In the 12th minute, Roach conceded again but kept pushing for a way back into the game. Bury Academy were able to grab a third goal in the 23rd minute and the score at half time was 0-3.

At half time we talked about not getting stressed and calmly trying to play some better football.

Unfortunately, there was more of the same to come in the second half though, with Bury Academy producing some real moments of quality and scoring some great goals. Roach still created a few chances and on another day, Alex would've scored a couple and Jailson's long range effort would've found the goal but it was a well kept clean sheet by Bury and a tough day at the office for Roach Greens.

Man of the match awards went to Harvey who played out from the back really well, Dan who slotted in to a left back role brilliantly after an equally strong first half in left midfield and Callum who showed the effort we had asked for no matter what position we asked him to play.
