vs Westbury Sports Club U12 Vipers

Away friendly match

An unlucky defeat against a team who played last season in the division above.

The game started well with both teams evenly matched but in the 7th minute Westbury made the breakthrough to go 1-0 up. Roach didn't let it affect them and chased an equaliser. After a couple of chances weren't converted, Jailson went on one of his marauding runs before being brought down 20 yards from goal. He picked himself up, dusted himself down and then took the free kick superbly, curling it into the net. With the tempo lifted, Roach Greens started causing lots of problems for Westbury, creating numerous chances before good work from Ewan saw the ball land nicely for Alex to lift it past the keeper and into the net. Two minutes later, Westbury equalised, the goalscorer seemingly a couple of yards offside but it was given and the game was back level going into half time.

The second half began as the first did with both teams evenly matched and creating chances. Unfortunately, it was the home team who took theirs, smashing home a third goal. A couple of lapses in concentration and effort let Westbury in for another goal but Roach Greens didn't give up and chased another goal themselves, creating lots of chances, hitting the woodwork and being unlucky with a goal mouth scramble. It wasn't to be and the game finished 4-2. At the end of the game, the opposition coach made a point of coming to talk to the team about how well they had played and told them they will do well this season.

Man of the match awards went to James for commanding his area well, Xavier for his hard work breaking up attacks in the midfield and Harvey for always attempting to play out from the back as we'd asked them to.
