Match Report - WESTBURY SPORTS CLUB U12 VIPERS - 26 Sep 2020

A disappointing result which flattered the opposition a bit today. Not actually much to choose between the two equally matches teams, but some lapses in concentration and some bad luck cost us the game.

Roach Greens fell behind after a bit of a defensive mix up in the 9th minute but then started to play some good football, combining hard work and passing. Westbury ended up grabbing a second goal with a brilliant strike from outside the box, straight into the corner of the net. Roach then showed great character to go straight up the other end, Ewan showing his lightning pace to beat the defender to Harvey's through ball and then showing brilliant composure to finish into the top corner. Shortly after, there was a tangle inside the Roach box which resulted in a penalty to Westbury. James stood big in goal and showed great strength to not only save the shot but actually catch it to keep the score at 2-1! Some really bad luck just before half time cost Roach another goal though. An own goal deflected into the top corner, giving James no chance and we came in 3-1 down at half time.

The second half played out the same as the first unfortunately. Maybe tired legs (or tired heads in some cases!) let Westbury in to score a fourth and a fifth goal and despite our best efforts and Alex's shot coming back off the crossbar, Roach just couldn't find another goal. Great support for the team again today, so thank you, we really appreciate it.

Man of the match awards went to Ewan who ran his socks off causing lots of problems and scoring a great goal, Jailson who showed hard work and effort in the midfield and James for his penalty save, good decision making and some great stops.
