A fantastic result for Roach Greens today, even if the scoreline was slightly flattering.
It looked like fortune was on Roach's side when, very early in the game, Shawside missed a penalty and then Roach Greens were fortunate not to have a player sent off. The rest of the first half was very evenly matched and it looked like we'd be coming in 0-0 at half time until a threaded pass from Nate found Alex in space and he slotted home. Moments later, and just before the half time whistle, the ball was played out of the Shawside defence on the Roach right hand side when Sam met it near the half way line with a long punt upfield. The ball headed straight for the goal where the Shawside keeper made an error and it bobbled in. 2-0 at half time!
The message at half time was that we had to keep up the hard work. Shawside would be looking for revenge in the second half.
The second half started closely again but after 10 minutes, the pressure from Roach paid off, with Dan rifling home the 3rd goal. Shawside heads dropped a bit and Roach took advantage with 2 good goals from Jailson, both assisted well by Alex, and then a 6th and final goal with Cody setting up Alex for his second of the day. 6-0 against a team who'd beaten us every season since I can remember!
Man of the match awards today went to Jailson for his all round performance, Sam for his focussed display in a new position and Callum who had his second good game in 2 weeks.
