What a great start to the new league season.
Roach Greens had a specific goal today: Work Hard! And that's exactly what each and every one of them did. Closing down the opposition, winning the ball back and forcing them into making mistakes. Roach combined this with good team work and took the lead after 15 minutes, Callum feeding a ball out to Daniel on the left side for him to power it home at the near post with a brilliant finish. In an evenly matched game, Rammy Raiders drew level in the 23rd minute after some good skill and team play. Roach picked themselves up again though, working hard to win the ball in the middle of the field where Jailson picked it up, took a couple of touches and hammered home a shot from outside the box. There was still time for another goal before half time, when the hard work paid off again with the ball ending up on the right side for Alex to pick it up, close in on goal and finish smartly to make it 3-1 to Roach at half time.
The 2nd half started evenly again and when Alex fed the ball through for Joe, he only had one thing on his mind! He ran at the defence and let go of a great shot into the corner of the net. Tired legs started to show for Roach and soon, Rammy Raiders had pulled back a 2nd and then a 3rd goal.
The "Work Hard" message was still working though and Roach defended really well and created a couple more chances in the last 15 minutes. This combined with a goal line clearance at each end made for an exciting end to the game with Roach holding on for a first 3 points of the season.
Man of the match performances today all around but the awards went to Sam, Jailson and Alex.
