A very close game and one where Roach Greens really should've taken at least a share of the points.
Greens were up against a big, physical team today and Bury All Stars' extra height paid off for the opening goal. 20 minutes in, it was a headed goal from a corner but Roach would've hoped to put more pressure on and not have given away a free header. Roach Greens were then denied what looked like a clear penalty by the reluctant stand in referee, just one of a few dubious decisions in the game. Chances for both teams came and went and Roach came in 1-0 down at half time.
Encouragement to attack the game more paid off just 4 minutes into the second half, with Jailson bursting free down the right hand side before slamming home a low, powerful shot. Then came another contentious decision with one of the opposition players looking yards offside before firing in a second for Bury All Stars. It was a tough blow but Roach continued to look for a way back into the game, Alex really unlucky not to convert one of Jailson's cut backs in the box. It stayed at 2-1 and Greens were visibly disappointed to lose the game but will learn some lessons and take some positives from it.
Man of the match awards went to Ewan for another great goalkeeping display, Nate for looking more like his old self and putting in the hard work we asked for and Josh because he was a rock in defence again.
