vs Quainton First
Home league match
A tough start to the season against an experienced Quainton side, especially as the late kick off meant that the pre-match routine of a co-op £3 pack of sushi just didn't cut it.
Conceding a goal in the first 5 mins (despite manager CB stressing that this was no ideal) meant that Quainton could get men behind the ball and make the game scrappy & difficult. Rivets maintained their positive approach to the game and a magical cross from Linds found its way to the shiny bald head of Marc Sunderland to power us back level. The yellow & blacks dominated most of the first half, and the 5th foul of the game on Linds allowed captain Phil to tuck away the ensuing freekick nicely. Rivets found themselves conceding a late first half goal, as Joe accidentally looked at the sun, allowing the Quainton striker to swoop in a bring his side level just before the break.
The second half started with a period of Quainton pressure, which was weathered well by Rivets. When we eventually established a foothold in the second half, it was a piece of magic from new boy James Sutton that got the boys back in front. Controversial clubhouse shouts of cross were thrown around, but the sensible players in the team were on hand to verify Suttons claim that he deliberately found the far corner. From there on out, Rivets were in command and soon after found themselves with a 2 goal cushion, thanks to a captains penalty after a foul on Marc. The cherry on top of the cake was provider by a well finished goal from local lad Matt Davitt, after one of a few menacing runs from Boobi down the right flank.
A good start to the season and a solid three points - especially after experiencing a couple of set backs in the first half.
