Not Good Enough

Well the good news was that Myers was back between the sticks and Steane could enjoy a game outfield. The bad news was it was the tiring late shift and no Hartrick to lead the line.

However, The Revs should have had enough surely?

But alas recent performances have shown a lack of ability to raise their game when needed and in the energy sapping heat, this was to be the case again.

If truth be told it was all the opposition in the early stages. Attack after attack was broken down by either a straining leg of a defender or a save we've missed from Myers.

Revs own attacks were fairly rare as the ball would come back time after time.

Eventually a break by Steane who then played a tired ball across the area to Pinkstone Snr which was cut out and a quick counter ended in a goal just before the break for their solitary old timer.

The Revs weren't out of the tie by no means and early in the 2nd half when Evans Snr's run in with Cocky Balboa led to a free-kick, Beardall's eyes lit up. Spotting the gap in an unorganized wall Beardall stroked in the equaliser.

This should have been the moment the game truly came to life for The Revs but apart from Evans Jnr squandering a golden chance after taking an extra touch with the keeper to beat, there really was nothing else to report on. A poor sluggish performance indeed.

And so the opposition got the winner their energy deserved. But it was in the most unfortunate of ways. With Myers view obstructed he had to second guess the direction of the impending shot, however it rebounded off the post and in off his back giving Rosse a 2-1 lead.

And that folks is the long and short of it all...

The lads trudged off unhappy with their display and feeling thoroughly old!

Are legs and mind finally not able to keep up with these younger teams?
