vs The Mole FC

Home league match

The Revs are on fire at the moment. Or, as the kids would say nowadays, are doing bits!

The Mole FC never think they deserve to lose, especially against the old boys of The Revs. They describe The Revs as their bogey team, but the truth is The Revs just know how to play against this team.

From the start the opposition had their possession and their step overs but just could not break through the defence unit, superbly led by Phil Pinkstone. In fact Myers had so little to do that he created his own chaos by playing out to their attackers!

Everyone pitches in though, the movement, the communication, the stand-up play, it’s all beautiful to watch. And the hard work pays off…

Within the first minutes a break out led to a corner that Hartrick whipped into the near post. Dave Pinkstone pounced and the keeper tried to clear his lines but only managed to smash it at Pinkstone and into the goal it went.

This frustrated the opposition who believed they had been the better side. They hadn’t though. Yes, more possession, but The Revs allowed them that and controlled that possession.

So minutes later when Hartrick doubled the lead after Dave Pinkstone had his initial shot saved, frustration was beginning to show. Little snide remarks, a lingering foot in the tackle and falling out amongst themselves soon started to show.

Can you imagine how they felt then when their keeper, who lists wannabe striker and liability on his CV, went all show boaty, gave the ball away and Tyman latched onto it on the half way line and finished from distance with the perfect shot into an open net?

Mutterings of “We do not deserve to be 3 down to this lot” could be heard on pitch one. The truth is they did. The Revs produced a professional display in that first half, controlled the game and took their chances.

The chat at half time was simple. Don’t do anything reckless, play sensible and keep it tight and frustrate. It didn’t matter if the 3-0 score line wasn’t added to, the 3 points were what was important.

And that’s what happened. Once again everyone played their part with big tackles, intercepts and frustrating the opposition into long range efforts. And still carved out chances at the other end as Mole FC left themselves vulnerable to the counter.

Unfortunately no more goals were added but that didn’t matter. The job had been done by half time and the second half was about composure and a professional performance.

4 games in, sat at the top of the league with 4 wins and having only conceded 1 goal so far, it seems The Revs might just be everyone’s bogey team!
