The Revs were all chomping at the bit in the New Year… and no one had come onto the pitch looking like they had one too many mince pies…
In fact the only food about was the pot noodle Dave Pinkstone had brought in his little thermos cup – how cute!
So the team, all resplendent in their new strip, were ready for a new challenge in the guise of Tangerine Dream. A team that had familiar faces from BFB FC but were a wholly new team according to the stats.
On the balance of play the opposition probably had the better of the first half. The only real chances came from James Evans after a through ball by Phil, which was then saved and Beardall blazing over from distance after spotting the keeper off his line.
The Revs were also saved at the other end either by the knacker-sack of Phil Pinkstone or the post of the goal.
The conversation at half time was positive though – the cobwebs have been blown off, now it was time to play.
That certainly happened.
Hartrick had done fine up front in the first half but was feeding off scraps from long balls and looking to turn to shoot, however in the second half the old boy of The Revs started to hold the ball up better and look for the offload – which wasn’t always there but the ball on the ground, playing out from the back was certainly improving the team’s chances of opportunities.
And so it came to pass, with a one two between Myers and James Evans, played down the flank to Tyman who knocked into Hartrick who turned his man and found Allen poaching.
Allen himself admitted it wasn’t the cleanest of finishes but they all count and got the team off the mark.
The opposition really had no answer and instead reverted to how The Revs played in the first half, lumping the ball up top and hoping for some daylight.
Meanwhile Lewis Evans and Tyman were in bullish mood, ensuring no one got given an inch, the opposition or their own teammates. And truth be told The Revs didn’t look like conceding although both James Evans and Phil Pinkstone both played dangerous balls allowing the opposition a sniff but fires were put out quick enough.
All in all it was terrific start to the New Year and one that probably flattered the opposition truth be told. The Revs will get better, get fitter and mount a serious challenge on the top half of the table.
Up next is a real test though in Diemen Sniep… So put that left over Christmas cake down and get ready to do battle boys!
