Not So Lethal Weapons...

"I'm getting too old for this shit..."

And so said Murtaugh to Riggs on many an occasion during the Lethal Weapon series of films (not the TV series!).

When the opposition state at the end that they think you must have had a good session the day before you know the performance was under par to say the least.

Early doors a mistake from Beardall on the edge of the box gifted the opposition their first goal. A second coming later in the first half as their speedy winger raced in to make it 2.

All this whilst The Revs didn’t even make a dent on their goal.

Don’t get me wrong, The Revs had possession, plenty of it, but they just didn’t know what to do. A bad decision to hold off a pass or pass too early, slow to react and very little movement afforded the opposition time to get back and defend scrappily.

The second half continued in the same vain… Too slow to make decisions cost The Revs last night.

At least in the second half The Revs finally had chances of note. Evans Snr hitting his shot straight at the keeper, Pinkstone Snr doing like-wise and Evans Jnr hitting a horrible shot wide that you just had to laugh about to be honest. It was either that or cry.

Their 3rd was again a bit of a mess in defence with several players reacting late and not clearing their lines and the ball ending up in the back of the net. This was the killer goal, the point of no return.

At least their 4th was a thing of beauty and not a Revs mistake. A perfectly weighted lob over by their forward to their speedy winger who timed his run perfectly and hit the sweetest volley into the back of the net.

And that folks is the difference. The Revs no longer have that finesse, that speed of thought or the audacity to try something like that – and if they did it would end up in row Z!

Last game week for this season next week. It’s been a very stop-start season and if the rumours are true it could be this calibre of opposition every week…
