Well, what a kick in the balls that was.
To lose in the last minute, to the last meaningful kick in the game, after playing so well, against a side that with a single sub to bring on we would have beaten?
A right clump in the knackers in truth.
The Revs were at bare bones last night, no Olly or Matt meant me (Dave H) in goal in a pair of brand new gloves, a Pinkstone brothers defence ahead, a midfield of Gaz and Lew, and James up top. Not a bad side but no subs meant a long game ahead, and so it proved in the end.
The first half came and went and to be honest, from my position in goal I think we had the best of it. A few chances were missed but generally we pressed more and they only got into the game as we neared half time. Another night and we would have been ahead instead of 0-0 at the break, but we were playing okay.
Despite playing well some harsh words were exchanged at halftime, a lack of positivity a result of the shite luck we've had lately. Regardless of that and regardless of what was said it's time to pull together, and next week we all need to take that on board and encourage each other more. There's no I in team, shit loads of them in floccinaucinihilipilification mind, nine of the bastards according to Google, no idea what it means so don't ask.
So into the second half and James Evans scored a lovely goal to deservedly put us ahead. They came at us as we expected but for 10 minutes we held firm, some good blocks and a few saves later we were looking good. We were creating up top too, James and Dave P both had a couple of chances and the corners were coming, so you know what happens next.
Their equaliser came from a build up of pressure and then an overlap as legs were tiring. They were delighted to score and they had used most of their energy whinging to this point as they weren't very good. The game ebbed and flowed to the end and then with barely 30 seconds left a cross, a chance, and a goal that ruined a good night's work. Dave P's miscontrol may have created the chance but Matt or Olly in goal would have saved it as they'd have got there quicker, win as a team, lose as one too. Ah well. Football init.
