Away league match

Last time out Real Ale came on strong at the end and scored a couple of breakaway goals with the game poised at 1-1.

This time The Revs had a point to prove and after recent performances needed to match that with points!

From the start The Revs were in the mood, camped in their half putting bodies and, in Beardall's case, testicle's on the line! Both of them!

It wasn't long before The Revs reaped their reward in fortuitous style! The Revs have not had the best of luck over recent weeks but D. Pinkstone's handball to bat it to Tyman to tap into an empty net certainly cancels out some harsh decisions The Revs have had against them.

The Revs piled on the pressure with snap shots from Tyman and L. Evans not testing the keeper, but several corners came and went. However, one such corner whipped in by J. Evans found Beardall far side of the box, his touch not as assured as usual, stabbing a toe at the ball.

Easy take for the keeper... or it should have been anyway as he let it slip underneath him and slowly into the back of the net. 2-0 and cruising!!

Real Ale needed a response and they got one just before half time. The brilliant Allen, who had marshalled all game so far, allowing his man on the outside of him, then on the inside of him, then round Myers who sat on the floor, to tap in to make it 2-1!

This was not the plan!

However, that's what the score line stood at as the second half became an arm wrestle with sides defending well enough to not concede further goals.

In truth chances for The Revs were rare in the second half. It was all about defence as they got pinned in. They tried in vein on several occasions to counter attack, but they soon broke down. The best chance came to L. Evans who nipped in front of their keeper but by the time he'd circled to shoot a defender was back on the line.

So it was which defence would come out on top and the answer has to be The Revs with Allen in fine form. He glided across the pitch and swept up any danger. On the rare occasion they broke free or overloaded Allen then up stepped Myers with several amazing stops with the attacker expecting to see the goal bulge!

Even late on, with a sinbinning for J. Evans for a (we'll call it a) mistimed tackle, The Revs threw their bodies on the line ensuring the lead stayed intact.

One final effort for Real, with a man extra, all out attacking led to the save of the game with Myers tipping a close range shot round the post.

The final whistle eventually went much to the relief of the lads who had finally registered a win after going so long without any points!

Slowly the belief has come back and the game play has got better, but more importantly the fun has come back... Time to push on now lads!
