Home league match

It was a glorious day yesterday for football… until football actually happened! Then the dark clouds ascended and the heavens opened. Which suited only ducks, oh and Pathetic Athletic!

So of course within the first few minutes, two attacks led to 2 goals! It looked like it was going to be a long evening for The Revs.

Luckily The Revs had Tyman on the pitch who really lifted the team with one smashing – literally – towering header that served to spur the lads on. Suddenly the team started to play a bit. And as a result found themselves back in the game when H slipped in Tyman who finished with aplomb!

The conditions, as stated, suited the passing style of Pathetic. They whipped the ball around but The Revs were competing, keeping them at bay after the initial onslaught. The difference between the sides was one player. He was quick, could use both feet and was controlling the game. It took an almighty effort to keep him quiet for large parts of the game. Once again Tyman lead the way with a crunching tackle on the lad that took ball and man and set up a rare foray into their half.

The Revs were totally committed to keeping the opposition at bay, so a lot of play was without the actual ball.

In the second half The Revs had to be more adventurous but it came at a cost with a third goal on the counter attack midway through the second half. Unfortunately that essentially killed the game off and The Revs didn’t really test the keeper enough. Beardall did well to try and lob the keeper after the keeper spilled the ball but there wasn’t enough height on it. Dave P smashed into the side netting and Evans Snr had a pop shot blocked that lead to a bit of pressure from a corner, but the effort shown produced little reward.

Nothing was coming off truth be told. Evans Jnr did well to shield the ball from their star man, only to then turn and take the ball out. Beardall tried several through balls but the ball just span out on the greasy surface. Evans Snr intercepted a through ball and it freed H to surge forward but he ran out of space and never tested the keeper. It was that type of game, summed up when Beardall overplayed a ball into a rampaging Pinkstone Snr who ran out of steam and the resulting pass was a tired one easily cut out.

Late on in the game their good player, now bearing down on a tired team, turned Pinkstone Snr and Steane inside out and sat them both on their arses to slot home a 4th.

And with that came the end and another loss to Pathetic Athletic – a team that even from the 5aside days we have not beaten. Are The Revs running of games as they get old to finally beat them one day??
