Well what a night of football that was…
Freezing conditions, hail that came in sideways and a relentless Polish killing machine that couldn’t be bargained with, they didn’t feel pity or remorse or fear and absolutely will not stop… ever.
It was a hard game and injuries certainly did not help the situation either. Tyman having to come off after a crunching tackle after 2 minutes, but then he was quickly thrown back on when Beardall went over on his ankle and couldn’t continue after 5 minutes.
So no subs for pretty much the remainder of the game whilst the opposition made subs more akin to an ice hockey game, constantly changing, constant fresh legs coming on and running at you.
And running and running and running… they never stopped. And they could play also. Pinging the ball around in neat triangles, probing the defensive line.
Eventually they got success and found themselves in a two nil lead before half time.
But that isn’t to say they had it all their own way. As good as they were going forward, they also left large holes at the back. The Revs broke through often and were unlucky that they came up against a huge bin man looking chap in goal who seemed to save most things including a lovely drive by Tyman that was tipped onto the post.
There were so many oh so near moments for The Revs. A lack of composure, the wrong pass, not shooting quick enough or not connecting to the ball quite strongly enough.
And the hail continued to hammer in… “This place like hell…” (Imagine that in a Polish accent!)
The second half was much better for The Revs overall as they began to play in and around the opposition but were sucker punched by a moment of magic from the opposition. Dazzling feet from their big man up top sat three, yes THREE, Revs players on their arses and he finish with a fine stroke of the ball. That was essentially the winner as they sat a bit deeper knowing they had the points and allowed The Revs more territory as a result.
This led to flurry of corners and pressure on the opposition box and eventually the team got their just reward. If the oppositions third was a case of control, then The Revs was all about miss-control. Tyman put through but never truly gaining full control, ended up somehow sitting the keeper on his backside, but still without ever really having the ball, it was then stabbed across goal and fortunately the hard working and reliable Allen was on the end to poke home!
There was less than two minutes left on the clock but The Revs tried in vain to find a second and finish the stronger of the teams. Time ebbed away quickly though and it ended 3-1 and finally everyone could go defrost…
But The Revs showed positive signs in awful conditions and they will be back...
