There really isn’t much to shout about at the moment for The Revs. The opportunity to have a break from league action and go for a good, solid cup run and shake off the shackles has just not happened. Last week there wasn’t much action in terms of a goal threat and this week it was a harsh lesson that The Revs just are not good enough at this level.

The positives? Well not many but P. Pinkstone’s work rate and endeavour to win the ball and make it difficult for a team terrorising The Revs was outstanding. It is just a shame that the team in front of him let him down with poor touches, passing and a lack of effort to match. Pinkstone couldn’t do it all, but boy did he try.

Tyman also scored his first goal of the season. A bit of a shinned finish but he showed great desire to get on the end of Hartrick’s fine pass through. At that point it was 2-1 going into half time. The second half The Revs were blitzed from the off with two sublime goals, but The Revs did briefly hit back with Dave Pinkstone’s kick in setting up Hartrick on the turn and shot to make it 4-2.

That is where the positivity ends though. Evans was once again woeful in front of goal, missing an easy target dragging it wide after good play by Steane. He wasn’t the only one wasteful in front of goal with Tyman, Steane and Beardall all ballooning shots with the goal begging. D. Pinkstone had to retire 5 minutes from time with an injury he couldn’t shake off and Myers’ distribution went from spot on to awful as the ball flew into touch on several occasions, but in his defence the outfield players never made it easy for him.

This left The Revs totally open to the elements and the calamitous defending, bar P. Pinkstone’s efforts, meant goals galore for the attacking side running out 8-2 winners in an easy win.

The second half was a total shambles and Evans got the tactics – 2 at the back, 2 in the middle – horribly wrong as the gap between the back and the front was constantly too big and The Revs just reverted to type and hoofed it up the pitch hoping something would stick.

The stark truth of things though is that The Revs could hide their flaws on a 5aside pitch but are terribly open to the elements on a bigger pitch and are not good enough to use the space intelligently.

And the worst part of this? There’s still half a season to go!

INJURY UPDATE: To add to last night's humiliation, David Pinkstone visited the hospital and was informed that he has a tear of the calf muscle sidelining him for 4-6 weeks.
