Its games like last night that make you realise you are getting old. We often say we faced a team half our age, when in reality we just mean younger. However, last night it was true, more so in fact! A bunch of 16 year old's schooled the old men…

It’s not to say we didn’t play badly, but we didn’t play great either. We have enough about us to have bullied that team last night, but instead we allowed them to play. And they were quick!

The positives though were that The Revs played better as a unit this time round than the first time we played them and Tyman was in a fine, authoritive mood last night, plenty of big hits and tackles!

However, in front of goal The Revs were wasteful. The two best chances coming the space of 10 seconds in the 2nd half. The first shot from Evans palmed into Tyman’s path for the follow up with the keeper tipped round the post.

The scrambling defence was also, on the whole, good. Allen really marshalling at the back and snuffing any danger out. And when Allen was beaten it was Myers to the rescue.

Their goals? Well all three were essentially break away goals. Steane losing possession for the first, Evans not quick enough for the second and the third was a sloppy back heel from Hartrick.

The ageing Revs also had to deal with sticky heat and no subs after Beardall pulled his hamstring after 8 minutes. This did lead to Allen walking off the pitch late on assuming there was a sub to be had as the opposition came bearing down on Myer’s goal.

And that pitch… wow it’s quick. And awful. Saltaire may well be a world heritage site but that pitch is certainly not a wonder!

And so the season drags out with 4 more games to play.
