So this was the game that was chosen to experiment with live tweeting. All the action as it happens. Turns out it was just a list of substitutions as this game ended all square at 0-0.
A 0-0 at 6aside is a rare thing though and shows off the art form of defending brightly, something The Revs excel at to be honest, having only conceded once this season.
There were chances for both teams, some very good chances in fact.
Tyman had an early sighter saved comfortably by the keeper after he had turned his man. Hartrick had several opportunities in a row but was closed down each time for by the willing defence of the opposition. Dave P also had a half attempt blocked after a lovely one two with Hartrick that included lobbed balls and a headed reply. And Beardall had the audacity to try score from an acute angle out wide which hit the side netting.
The actual chance of the game, though, came from Lewis Evans who strode onto Hartrick’s pass, sped off past a would be tackler and crashed a thunderous shot at the crossbar that had left the keeper no chance.
And this is not including the opposition chances, whose tactics were play on the counter. They had once or two sighters themselves that they should have done better with, but were also up against the imperious Phil Pinkstone who was in no mood to let anything through. And when something did get through a diving stretch cleared the lines leaving him all tangled in the back of the net.
Everyone once again put an almighty shift in to ensure another clean sheet. Myers was back to his best also, closing down attackers, making himself big and protecting that goal.
Yes it puts an end to the 100% perfect start to the season but it does maintain the unbeaten run, the only unbeaten run in the league and was a big test that The Revs came through. In the end a 0-0 draw was a fair result with both teams having chances, but eventually the defence of both teams proving impenetrable.
Another stern test awaits next week when The Revs face newbies Queensbury and their unknown nature… But defend like this and they will have to be damn good to breach our back line.
