The Revs are in a right purple patch at the moment. Last night they made it 3 from 3 with a hard fought, true grit type of performance.
There are games that The Revs play sexy football, have a lot of possession and out play the opposition. Then there are games when the entire team has to dig in, chase the ball, hound the opposition and defend for most of the game. This was one of those games, but The Revs managed the game throughout.
They allowed the younger opposition to showboat, have the ball in the middle and show them out wide. The Revs allowed them to shoot from distance knowing that only a world class effort was beating either the defence or the keeper.
The opposition will think they should have had a share of the spoils in the very least, but the secret here is The Revs were always in control and game management from everyone was on point!
Look, there really isn’t a lot to say about last night’s victory other than applauding the effort by all. The Revs in the past would have lost this one – hell we did last time out against this team but under very different circumstances.
Right now, each person is playing for each other, for the team. Each player is busting a gut and not been selfish and everyone is keeping their head. A full team on the pitch was always going to prove difficult to break down for the opposition.
Yes the opposition had the better technical players, the quicker players, the younger players. But the opposition also had a selfish streak and played as individuals. The Revs were by far the better team.
And as the cliché goes… team work makes the dream work!
And so it took one moment for The Revs to win this. A period of pressure and an opposition that could not deal with the quality from corners eventually broke with a fine ball in by Hartrick met by Dave P and his deft touch took it beyond the keeper. Two players currently in form linking up once again. 1-0 and that is how it remained.
The opposition had a late surge when they actually looked like a team but Myers’ safe hands dealt with everything that came his way. The team slowed things down, passed it around and watched on as the opposition got more and more frustrated.
And it was a nice touch by the opposition to congratulate us on the victory, very magnanimous in defeat.
And so the form continues, The Revs make it 3 on the bounce and everyone is already looking forward to their next outing on the pitch!
RTID boys!!
