Home league match
It was hot, the sun was bearing down and The Revs didn't produce... That's the basics of it.
The Revs faced Parsnips who had yet to win in the league and this was 3 points that The Revs definitely missed out on. The Revs had the lion's share of possession, more chances than the last 3 games put together, a succession of corners as a result of constant pressure but could not put the ball in the net.
Add to that the opposition got a very fortunate opening goal after it deflected off Allen and then off Steane's shoulder to nestle in the top corner and you sensed it was not going to be our night.
So when an opposition player took a snap shot round Beardall to beat a blindsided Steane to make it 2-0 before half time, it really was an uphill task.
To be fair tot he lads we were better in the second half. Large periods of play was in the opposition half and pressure in their box was constant. However, it was a night of poor finishing. Wayward shots, balls flicked over the bar and shots direct at the stand in keepers just wasn't good enough.
Some of the build up play was enterprising at times, but the team slowly ran out of ideas looking for a way back into the game.
And after such a sustained period of pressure the inevitable happened 7 or so minutes from the end when a missed runner was left in open space to slot past a despairing Steane to make it 3.
It was a real head scratcher as to how we lost. Yes the heat sapped energy, but The Revs should still have had enough about them to win this.
And so Parsnips have their first victory of the season and suddenly a bright season for The Revs looks like a battle to maintain mid-table mediocrity.
