Nicked It!

In the late day heat and sticky conditions The Revs managed to nick this one. The opposition really took it to The Revs from the off. The old boys of Athletico Parsnips had an injection of youth who was full of running and it was them that dictated play early on.

The heat really was getting to The Revs though, which is no excuse for the sloppy play at times. The Revs even had two subs to call upon whereas the opposition had none and still the opposition looked the fresher.

I mean apart from a few pop shots there was no real danger of the opposition scoring but they did keep coming. And on the odd occasion they did overpower The Revs Tyman was on hand to sweep up at the back.

Passing and concentration were the downfall for The Revs in that first half and stern words were said at half time.

Luckily The Revs did up it a gear in the second half although the opposition were the ones afforded the first chance of the half.

Eventually passes found targets and the team seemed much more switched on as the opposition started to flag.

Jamie Allen was unlucky to have his goal bound effort tipped onto the bar from a corner and Dave Pinkstone was unlucky not connecting with a header. The breakthrough came midway into the second half when Phil Pinkstone, magnificent at the back, found himself in space further up the pitch and drilled a ball into Hartrick who turned his man and did the rest putting The Revs 1 up.

Further chances came for Beardall and Dave Pinkstone that should have put the game to bed but the keeper managed to thwart the chances to keep them in the game.

And in it they were right up until the final whistle when a lack of concentration at the back allowed their young lad to sneak in at the back post but Tyman produced a double save to deny them a share of the spoils.

The Revs know they have to be better than this and know they can be better than this. Next week against a new team they will have to show that.

But a win is a win and it gets the season started.
