vs Monotype Athletic

Home league match

After a prolonged Christmas break we came back with a home fixture versus Monotype Athletic, a team we had never played before so we had no idea what to expect. We took control of the match early on and never really let go of it, Monotype were a solid team but they didn't offer much in attack and despite having the youth advantage just couldn't keep up with us. Despite all our possession and chances we didn't find the net until 35 minutes in when a lovely spell of play which started from the goalkeeper through the defence and down the right ended up with Alex Smith playing a nice through ball across the box to the unmarked O'Keeffe who got on the scoresheet with a goal he deserved for his efforts over the season.

We went in at half time 1-0 up, we struggled to keep the ball on the deck and the high winds meant all the long balls were flying out of play and the game turned into a game of set pieces. Once again we failed to come out of the traps quickly in the 2nd half but never looked in trouble at the back at all. We got the 2nd midway through the 2nd half when Jack Carroll saw his shot saved but he made no mistake when spinning onto the rebound. We won't talk about his miss 10 minutes later which was the worst open goal miss in not only Reigate Hill history but Redhill and District history. We also saw the reintroduction of all time top scorer Sammy B who replaced the returning Mikey and for the first time ever we had our 3 best strikers on the pitch at once which was a huge hit for the Reigate Hill nostalgia fanatics. O'Keeffe finished the rout when Gillett played the ball across to him and from 25 yards out Paulie unleashed a 25 yard Yeboah esque strike which clattered the bar and flew into the net.

All in all a great performance from top to bottom with Paulie getting man of the match after all his hard graft through the season finally paid off with 2 great strikes. 3 points seperate 4 teams at the top and we need to keep ploughing on to give us every chance of winning the league!
