It was our first game against Monotype and we weren't sure what to expect but we went about our business in good fashion. We started well and the wingers provided plenty of danger early on but despite finding the positions Gillett was unable to capitalise on some good deliveries. Eventually we made the breakthrough when Gillett played a cutting through ball to Junior who beat the last defender and slotted it past the keeper. The game started to settle down a bit after that and Monotype worked their way into the game with their best chance coming from an over the top through ball but Damo was out to meet it and made the save from the striker. We had a few more chances with Rob Wigley's shot kept out by our own player on the line! Danny came on for Gillett after about 35 minutes and the change paid immediate dividends when Alex Smith played him in and he made no mistake from inside the box. 2-0 at half time and it was pretty comfortable for us with one change at half time a straight swap Driver going in goal and Damo into LB. We started the 2nd half as we did the first but didn't create any cutting edge chances as the midfield and attack decided to start attempting flicks and tricks and we fell out of shape playing long balls. Despite that Monotype still provided no threat and Wigley played in Danny in front of goal and he made no mistake for the 3rd. The subs then came on and the rest of the half was pretty quiet both ends until Rob played Danny in about 25 yards out and he curled a beauty into the top corner to finish the rout. Monotype's best chance of the game came towards the end when their striker tried to round Driver but the replacement keeper made a superb save to keep the clean sheet intact.
It was a professional and clean performance from us with both keepers and the defence pretty comfortable at the back, the midfield looked dangerous as ever with the wingers causing plenty of trouble and despite it not being Gillett's day, Danny came on and nabbed a nice hat-trick. Tulley earned man of the match for a great performance and he carried the team through the dull spots and kept everyone up to their work.
