Away league match

Long trip away to Whelley to take on the 2nd place team in the division.

Squad of 13 to choose from as Charlie was back from holiday but both Harry and David were at cricket. Its not the first time we've started a match slowly which in view of the sufficient time we had to warm up and chat about the game was concerning. Whelley had a chance within 10 seconds and it took a good save from Rory to push the ball around the post for a corner. The majority of the play for the first 15 mins was in our half as the lads struggled with Whelley's combative approach and before they knew it we were 2-0 down from a lack of communication.

I feared the worst if im honest but was very pleased with the lads response for the remainder of the game as other than another goal for the home side and one chance second half which Rory dealt wih, the rest of the game was played in Whelley's area of the pitch. We did create chances albeit not a handful but Ethan hit the bar first half, Charlie missed a good opportunity second half and Sam couldn't quite bundle the ball over from a corner which fell invitingly in the 6 yard box. Harvey did manage to score a couple of goals and his second was a screamer from 20 yards. Unfortunately we couldn't quite get another which the lads efforts would have thoroughly deserved.

Another tight defeat (the fifth this season by the odd goal). It shows the lads are capable of matching anyone from this division bar maybe the league champions and its annoying that we have not quite had the rub of the green in some of these aforementioned close matches. Home match v CMB on saturday where a few are missing but we should have 12 and a similar performance will be required if we are to get the points.

Man of the match was a tough choice as there was some good performances from many of the team notably Harvey, Aaron and Sam but Josh got the nod as he didn't put a foot wrong in either of the defensive positions he played.
