Haughton Green 3-5 PFC U15(Sun)

A tough but really rewarding run out for the lads this morning against a physical HG team who won a league and cup double last season. If there was ever a sense of opposition wanting a game against and old foe it was this morning. Their squad had arrived early and their coaches were putting them through their paces when we arrived, it focused us in the warm up ??

The game was a tight affair in the early exchanges, HG pressed well but we found our passing rhythm quickly and dictated play which was a real positive that pushed HG back. As the half wore on the lads stepped up a couple of gears and that resulted in some great play (in our style) and with it can some build up and great goals, HT 0-4. We asked the lads to keep up the intensity in the second half, we also made a planned change in the formation. Unfortunately their was a switch off for a period and we allowed HG to come back into the game with 3 soft goals from our perspective, there is a lesson to be learned from that period which we spoke about after the game.

Overall, the elements of the play, the partnerships in roles and the team unity were the key areas of focus for us today and the lads did a super job ????There will be tough tests ahead in the league this season and their mental approach will be equally as important as their technical and physical skills. They have set off on the right track with the win this morning, but we need to keep working hard to gain that consistency moving towards the start of the new season, which we’re confident they can do.
