West Exe 2 v Plymouth Phoenix Girls 5
Amy Pridham (2)
Jade Packer (2)
Hollie Ellis
On a very sticky and heavy pitch with long grass, Plymouth Phoenix still managed to play some very entertaining football with their slick passing. The opening goal came when good team play down the left wing ended with Amy Pridham firing home a cross from Jade Packer for a well worked goal. Phoenix continued to press but could not find a way past the West Exe keeper who had a good game. West Exe leveled the score just before half time with a close range finish. HT1-1
With the pitch now getting heavier and very slippery both teams done a great job of keeping their feet. Phoenix took the lead with a long range effort by Jade Packer which squirmed through the legs of the West Exe keeper and into the net. This lifted Phoenix again and some great wing play caused the home side loads of problems, however, it was Amy Pridham picking up the loose ball in the middle and drove straight at the keeper to slot the ball home. More great play on the wing and a cross by Maddie Maguire found Hollie Ellis on the edge of the box and she smashed the ball home into the roof of the net. Another team goal soon followed, Jade Packer feeding Emily Ley on the right wing, her run and cross was met by Packer who finished from close range.
Despite being behind, West Exe still continued to threaten the Phoenix goal on several occasions
and got their reward when their midfielder latched onto the ball and hit a screamer into the bottom corner of the net from 20 yards out. This lifted West Exe and they pushed hard to further reduce the Phoenix's lead, however, the Phoenix rear guard stood firm to ensure the game ended 5-2
