Away cup match
Orpington Athletic returned to their attacking best this weekend and easily dispatched South London Doves to progress to the next round of the Bill Braisted Memorial Trophy. Ben Blyghton and Nick Adamou were reintroduced into the starting line up and repaid their inclusion with a brace each. Mike Adamou customarily added his name to the score sheet and a rare headed goal for stalwart, Austin Facer was a welcome addition to the tally.
Orpington let themselves down last week, however with a strong, creative front line, they made light work of Doves from the outset. Blyghton and Nick Adamou combined early on to open the scoring, with Facer heading in from a whipped corner from Mike Adamou. Blyghton increased the lead to 3 just before half time with a cross-come-shot and at half time, Orpington were comfortably in charge.
Doves made an early rally in the second half and with 2 goals in quick succession, the comeback looked possible. However, Orpington shut up shop and in the last 20 minutes of the game, put themselves out of sight with some precise, attacking play.
Orpington will now face Green St Green in the 3rd round of the cup, with the match to be played in the last weekend of January. Orpington's league campaign continues next weekend, with an away trip to face Haywards.
