Home league match
Orpington Athletic produced an outstanding display this weekend as they ripped apart their opposition and ran out winners with 9 goals and a clean sheet. Interfecta were unable to live with Orpington's relentless attack as the goals were shared out between the imperious front men.
Only 6 months ago, Orpington lost 4-0 to Interfecta as they lacked the ability to convert a host of opportunities, however this was a completely different story. Orpington went for the jugular and were 5 goals ahead before 20 minutes had been played. Playing like a perfectly oiled machine, Orpington's attackers looked like they would score with every attempt and at the other end of the field, Interfecta could not breach the impenetrable defence.
In the second half it was more of the same. The defence and the attack were perfectly knitted together by Haden and Braithwaite in the middle of the park and goals kept on coming. If not for some questionable offside decisions, Orpington would have registered double figures, however the team movement and link up play saw some memorable goals tucked away.
Following a rare attack by Interfecta towards the end of the match, 'keeper Matt Utton kept the clean sheet intact with an outstanding double save and the defenders worked perfectly to ensure the goal remained unbreached.
Orpington's attack has never looked so polished and with a win that takes them to the top of Division 3, these look like exciting times for the team, with goals now an expectation in every match.
Orpington move to cup duties next weekend and host Interfecta for the second time as they contest in the Ted Holder Trophy. The team will no doubt want more of the same.
