Home league match
Orpington rounded off 2019 with a pulsating performance which saw them annihilate Inter Cross for the second time this season. Braces for Mike Adamou and Tejiri Kode, as well as goals from across the field from Joe Haden, Anthony Knott and Nick Adamou, were more than enough to secure an emphatic victory against their league rivals.
Orpington started slowly, an uncharacteristic display at home, and were unfortunate to lose Austin Facer at centre back early on. However, Terry Fowler, making his return from a long injury, was able to fill in, like for like.
Despite a rusty start, Orpington found their flow after half an hour, and Mike Adamou, in the number 10 role, set the team on their way with 2 wonderful assists to set up brother, Nick, and Haden respectively, and 2 well taken goals of his own. Inter thundered home an excellent free kick to give Orpington something to think about, just before the break.
In the second half, Orpington were rarely tested and could have been mistaken for taking the game too lightly as they played their way around a despondent Inter team. But, with 20 minutes left to play, the team came alive again and Kode helped settle the game with 2 goals and a great assist to set up the inspirational Knott, filling in at left attacking midfield. A final lack of concentration at the back allowed Inter a late consolation goal, but Orpington finished the match with a comfortable victory.
Orpington go into the Christmas break in second place in the MSFL Division 3 and will be looking to a strong 2020, with the hope of securing the title at the end of May.
