Away league match
Orpington Athletic and Inter Cross respectfully observed a minutes' silence in honour of armistice day this Sunday, before Orpington opened up their own attacking force and put Inter Cross to the sword. Five goals from the unrelenting Tejiri Kode, a contender for goal of the season from Mike Adamou and headed efforts for both Nick Adamou and Oral Graham saw Orpington put 8 goals past an Inter side who were simply unable to respond.
Orpington, having beaten Inter in pre season, flew out of the traps and Kode was set up to score a hat trick within just 16 minutes. The engine room of Downs and Braithwaite, occupying the CDM roles, linked the entire team together and Orpington were emphatic in their approach. Inter broke the back line on one occasion and managed to pull one goal back with a tidy finish, but it would be the last time 'keeper, Matt Utton would be beaten. Orpington soaked up a final 10 minutes of pressure at the end of the first half, with Utton making some expert saves.
In the second half, Orpington changed gear and the attacking display was electric. Nick Adamou headed home from close range after a great corner from Ben Blyghton. Adamou nearly scored another header, with his effort rebounding off the 'keeper into the path of Kode for his fourth and the team's fifth. And Blyghton provided again with a precise free kick which Graham somehow looped into the far corner with a fantastic headed goal. In amongst the demolition, Utton produced another great save to deny Inter direct from the penalty spot.
Mike Adamou produced a moment of magic following a defensive mix up from Inter Cross. Taking control of the loose ball, and with the 'keeper well off his line, Adamou sent a 40 yard shot perfectly over the stranded stopper to make it a magnificent seven. Kode rounded off the scoring, completely wrong footing the defence and the 'keeper with some wonderful skill, before slotting home to end the rout.
Orpington produced their best today and will be in the mood for another raft of goals when they welcome Petts Wood Seahawks to their home, next Sunday.
