Home friendly match

Orpington Athletic put Green Street Green to the sword this Sunday, putting 7 goals past their disjointed opponents with 6 coming in the first half. Another brace for Tejiri Kode, echoed by skipper, Laurence Downs and accompanied by a goal each for Ben Blyghton, Mike Adamou and Oral Graham saw Orpington romp to victory despite some defensive errors gifting some avoidable goals to the opposition.

Orpington started by far the better team with GSG's only outlet down the left hand side. However, 2 early misjudged defensive covers let GSG in and Orpington were 2 goals down inside 15 minutes.

Orpington shook off the early errors and turned their attack on. Firstly, Adamou struck from the penalty spot and Kode drew the team level with a lovely shot slipped under the 'keeper. Then on the half hour, Orpington scored 3 in 3 minutes, with Downs tapping in after a thunderous low cross from Blyghton, Kode slamming home his second and Blyghton rocketing in a long range effort.

The half was rounded off with a quality move when Blyghton sent Kode through with a lovely lofted ball, which the latter ran on to and cut back for Graham to slam home inside the box.

The second half began uneventfully and took time to warm up again until Adamou was denied a second on the hour mark. A great run from Kode pulled the goalkeeper out of the box and with the ball at Adamou's feet, he was unable to convert as the GSG defender pulled off an almighty block on the line.

Matt Utton, back in goal again, was then tested, first with an expert tip around the upright, followed by a solid catch from a direct free kick and finally, doing what he does best, saving from a spot kick. However, the pressure told and GSG managed to find away past Utton to get one back.

Orpington responded and Downs raced through the back line chasing a through ball from Graham and slotted home to restore the 4 goal cushion. Another defensive error saw GSG pull one more back with minutes to go, but the final whistle saw Orpington leave the field as worthy winners.

Orpington will now have a 2 week rest before they begin their league campaign on 22nd September against newcomers, Rose and Crown Welling FC. Despite conceding in each pre-season game, Orpington's 23 goal haul in 4 games should worry any defence in the Metropolitan League.
