Away league match
Orpington produced a dominant second half display to claim victory against Bromley Road FC and put daylight between themselves and the chasing pack in division 3.
On a boggy and poorly maintained pitch, both sides struggled to find rhythm in the first half. Bromley produced some good spells of play and, had it not been for some poor finishing, could have taken at least a 2 goal advantage.
Orpington soldiered on and were rewarded for their efforts on the stroke of half time as Ryan Hardie sent Tejiri Kode clear through, allowing him to cut back for Oral Graham to slam home from close range.
In the second half, it looked as though Bromley may find a way back into the match, but for some world class displays in goal by Matt Utton. Defying his 30 years, he leapt and sprang like a young prodigy, denying Bromley on 3 important occasions.
On the hour mark, a welcome return for Orpington stalwart as Zubair Akhtar made a first appearance of the season. Within minutes he set the midfield away and Graham sent Kode through to slot home precisely and double the lead.
Kode turned provider again with a neat chip into the box which was headed home by Graham and with minutes left to play, Kode rounded off the scoring after being sent through by the ever present Mike Adamou. Running from inside his own half, he cleared the defensive line, rounded the 'keeper and placed the ball into the vacant net.
The win takes Orpington Athletic top of division 3 as the battle for the title continues.
Orpington return home next Sunday, where they will honour their tragically departed defender, Anthony Knott. All supporters are welcome, and a 2 minutes silence as well as tributes to the late man will be observed.
