The first Quarter Final of the LMB MEFF FAECES served up a close encounter that ultimately had to be decided on penalties. After Luke’s Warsaw Pack had taken a commanding lead in the first 20 minutes, a stirring comeback by Fletch’s Cowabungabunga forced a thrilling finale. After an incredibly even opening, with Luke seeing the only good chance saved by Patto’s knees, The Pack began to get some joy from SuBo in attack, who was able to bring down long balls from Pete, Griff and Phil, and support Brett and Luke in attack, creating or taking several well taken goals. After the third goal, Patto was replaced in goal by Spence (who had a much more solid game) and slowly Cowabungabunga worked their way back into the game, with the movement of Fletch, Sicky and Aidan releasing Ash, whose low strikes caused Pete problems all game.

The second half saw Cowabungabunga level the game after pouncing on Warsaw defensive mistakes, before the chances petered out as The Pack resorted to long balls from Pete towards SuBo, who was shepherded into the corners, while Sicky blazed the best chance for Cowabungabunga over the bar after Ash had released Patto down the right wing.

For the second time in FAECES history, penalties were used to decide the outcome, and after 6 penalties for each team, it was the Warsaw Pack who took the spoils scoring 3 of their kicks compared to Cowabungabunga’s 2.

1-0: Brett(SuBo shrugged off two defenders down the left wing before feeding Brett on the edge of the area, who curled a delightful finished into the far post)

2-0: SuBo(A long ball from the back was headed up by Luke, and SuBo was able to lob the onrushing Patto from the edge of the area)

3-0: SuBo(A counter-attack by the Pack saw Brett square to SuBo for an easy finish beyond the exposed Patto)

3-1: Ash(Patto tackled Luke and fed Aidan, who weighted a beautiful ball into the path of Ash which was dispatched under Pete)

Half Time

3-2: Sicky (Patto stole the ball off Phil G and rolled a pass down the left wing to Sicky, who cut inside and finished strongly)

3-3: Ash(Ash played a one-two with Fletch from a throw, and then went on an unchallenged run into the box before smashing a shot under Pete)

Men of the Match were Brett, for “a good goal, and an even better injury”, and Ash, for “two decent strikes”.
