A tight tense affair played in all four seasons ended in another victory for Aidan’s Szczesny Hawkes.

The Hawkes played with the wind at their back in the first half which went from a mild calm evening into a rainy wind savaged evening and back in the space of 25 minutes. The Hawkes dominated possession but failed to test an injury restricted Phil in goal for the majority of the half. Indeed it was probably the Bagpuss team which tested the opposition keeper more as Spence pushed a rasping drive from Tooby over the bar and cleared up a couple of dangerous crosses. However Bagpuss often lost the ball when trying long balls from the back into the wind. The Hawkes did the make the breakthrough that their pressure deserved when Aidan dummied a shot and then cooly mishit the ball past Phil.

The second half started and the sun came blazing through from the college end which made visibility for the Hawkes difficult for the first five minutes or so. The second half was more even in terms of possession as both teams looked to find a breakthrough but chances were at a premium as both teams defending their own third well. Hawkes took a two goal lead however when Jack burst through midfield played the ball to Spence who faked the first pass and then calmly played the ball back to Jack who upon Spence’s command of ‘hit it’ slotted the ball into the bottom corner. With five minutes to go Bagpuss pulled a goal back as Tooby broke down the right and squared for SuBo to calmly find the corner. However Hawkes took advantage of Bagpuss over-committing at the end and broke through when Luke squared the ball to Jack who slotted in his second.

Overall we could tell that we hadn’t played for a few weeks as everyone showed signs of rustiness.

Men of the Match were: Crozier (“because I can never seem to tackle the bugger”) and Luke (“Luke was your stand out player I thought”).
