A close MEFF ended with all honours even in noticeably colder and windier conditions than a fortnight ago! Both teams had defence on their mind but there were a few moments of quality that resulted in some fine goals, especially with the finishing of Mr Spencer for All Bets Are Off... It’s In the Bag, who smashed the top bin on two occasions. Rowan, in goal for Fat Kids Always Win at SeeSaw, performed some miraculous saves to deny the opposition (particularly Spence and Griffiths) on a number of occasions when it seemed easier to score than miss. The non-existent nets, a sprained ankle for Patto and a number of other knocks to Griffin and Steels meant that the game lost some momentum but box-to-box moves were common, although a draw seemed a fair result as both teams pushed for more goals, in particular Aidan who almost scored his second own goal of the night when he looped Patto’s throw onto Steels’ bar with a firm header (under pressure from Griffin)!

1-0: Own Goal(a speedy run from Rich resulted in a dangerous low cross from the right that Aidan stabbed into his own net from 8 yards)

1-1: Spence(intercepted a miscontrolled ball and toe-poked an unstoppable shot inside Rowan’s near post from the right)

Half Time

1-2:Spence (Griffiths produced a mazy run but then fell over in the area, but the loose ball wasn’t cleared and Spencer crept up to smash the ball into the top right corner)

2-2:Patto (Birthday Boy Luke dribbled a quick counter-attack down the right wing, before unselfishly squaring to the injured Patto at the back post who tapped the ball home)

2-3:Griffiths (picked up a long ball and swivelled to shoot a low strike under Rowan)

3-3:Daz (a freakish curling cross from Patto caught the wind and forced Steels into a superb reflex save, but Griffin picked up the loose ball and eventually set up Daz who smashed an equaliser into the roof of the net)

Men of the Match were the returning Phil Parrot for “continual running [and a] ‘never give up’ attitude” and Crozier, who was “composed on the ball and got forward well”.
