MEFF #14 – THE UNTOUCHABLES 1 – 7 BRADLEY’S BRUISERS:

New challengers Bradley’s Bruisers picked up the biggest winning margin in MEFF history (to date) with a convincing victory over The Untouchables. After a close start with few chances, the Bruisers got men behind the ball to defend solidly, and struck on the counter-attack as Fletch’s team pushed forward in search of an opening.

Eventually Bradley’s Bruiser extended their lead to such a margin that Fletch’s team simply had to attack, creating more space behind for men to run into, although credit must be given to both teams as no-one gave up and the match remained fast paced and competitive until the very end. A special mention must also go to Griffin who (despite being on the losing side) “only made 2 mistakes in the entire match” (Griffin, Hooters, 2011).

0-1: Patto (after intercepting a stray pass, Patto ran straight down the length of the field unchallenged, and although his first shot was saved by Griffin in goal, he stabbed the returning ball into the empty net as Fletch tried to clear)

0-2: Luke (Patto played a reverse-pass through to Spence, who out-paced his marker on the right wing and passed across the face of goal for Luke to tap home at far post)

Half Time

0-3: Patto (Sicky’s raking 30 yard pass found Patto who was running unmarked down the right wing, and the ball was struck into the net across goalkeeper Griffiths)

0-4: Phil G (a good team move ended with Sicky passing the ball into the path of Phil on the left wing who curled his shot into the top right corner)

1-4: Neil (after some intricate passing around the box, Neil was eventually found in space by Griff, and he struck a determined effort inside Rowan’s post)

1-5: Own Goal (Brett’s long throw from the left was accidentally bundled into the net by Neil under pressure from Phil)

1-6: Spence (a mesmeric run from Spence ended when he was bundled over in the box by Kieran’s shove from behind. Spence unconvincingly dispatched the penalty into the bottom right corner via Aidan’s outstretched foot)

1-7: Patto (Sicky played a simple ball down the right wing, and Patto turned on the spot to slice a volley into the top right corner)

Men of the Match (chosen by the Captains) were Phil Gandy “for a display of pure pace down the left wing” and Pete “for occasional great movement up front”.
