Johnson Paint Trophy Game 5: In the first MEFF of 2014, Griffiths' Dagenham and Redbridge produced a stirring comeback from 4-1 down to take Fletcher's Wolves to penalties, but were ultimately defeated from the spot.
The first half was an interesting mix of hapless defending and wind-assisted pinball as Wolves started the brightest and put away three simple team goals as Pete was left exposed. Fletch found the net twice as he received the ball a yard from goal and finished calmly, while Prescott set up Phil for a low finish. Patterson gave Dagenham a ray of hope with a volley from SuBo's knock-down, but Brett Tooby produced a series of outstanding saves to keep the 2-goal cushion at half time.
Within minutes of the restart Wolves had their fourth when Luke was sent through clear on goal and finished under Pete, but after that Dagenham began to besiege the Wanderers goal, and despite Patto hitting the post and Brown pulling off a great point-blank save from SuBo, their defence couldn't hold and Taylor squared for Griffin who began the fight-back with a high finish. Patto's cross to Griffiths was then deflected into the path of Tom Spencer who finished beyond Sicky from a tight angle, before great work from Griffiths on the right wing allowed SuBo to turn and score what looked to be his second, before Robert Crozier nicked it on the line!
I think every one of the first 12 penalties was dispatched professionally, but eventually Peter Allaway saw his central effort snaffled by Phil, allowing Sicky Sicky Sam Burton to tuck away the winning spot-kick.
