Stones 4-2 Peche Hill
The stones made it 3 wins from the opening 4 games as they overcame a good Peche Hill side. The stones started well (for a change) and had the better of the early stages, this paid off when Pugh sent Davies through on goal, Davies unselfishly squared to Hand who made it 1-0. Shortly after Irving was given a sin bin after saying a bit too much to the ref and the stones had to see out the 10 minutes with 10 men. Irving's day went from bad to worse and when he returned to the field he pulled his hamstring and his day was over. Chris Moon replaced him at right back for his first appearance for almost 3 years, it looked like he had never been away as he showed great composure whenever called upon. 10 mins until the break and the stones doubled their lead when Davies had his shirt pulled in the box. Penalty. Pugh stepped up and dispatched for his 3rd of the season.
The stones were looking to get to the break 2 up but it wasnt to be when some poor marking from a corner allowed Peche to half the deficit. HT 2-1.
The second half started well for the stones when some nice work from Pugh and Bourne led to Davies finishing from close range. Shortly after Peche Hill were awarded an indirect free kick from close range following a back pass, the stones bravely defended it and kept Peche at bay, next came a talking point when Parry clashed with the Peche winger and after a bit of handbags both players were given their marching orders when in all honesty a couple of yellow cards would've sufficed. Disappointing for Parry who had been excellent throughout. With the game down to 10 a side gaps started to appear throughout and Hand was sent clean through on goal and finished at the near post for 4-1. It looked as if the game was over but then came a moment of real quality when Peche forward Woodley picked the ball up 30 yards from goal and sent a rocket into the top corner of the stones net. You will not see a better strike in the East Sussex league all season and it gave Peche momentum for the final 15 minutes. They huffed and puffed but the stones managed the game well to see it out and seal the 3 points. MoM today for his 2 goals and constant threat on the wing was Dave Hand.
Good luck to Peche Hill for the remainder of the season.
9 points from the opening 4 games. The stones have a week off next week and return to action in the cup on October 12th.
