Neutral cup match
With a European campaign on the cards, Oak Road came into the semi final in a buoyant mood following the previous round's demolition of LIV Lions.
However, in the way was Holderness Utd, who were clearly better than the division they were placed by the league at the start of the season.
After struggling against the wind for almost the entire half without any real chances, Oak Road lost a chance to go in level at the break in the final moments of the half with a multitude of defensive errors leading to a calm & composed finish from the Holderness striker.
Moving into the second half, Oak then started to look more relaxed on the ball and even creating a few chances (although from unlikely sources) which weren't taken advantage of.
A penalty, which for Oak was clear as day, wasn't given by the referee for Phil Wilson being attacked in the air once the ball had been played. Jesus ref, he's getting old so he can't go taking these hits. Though Phil usually dishes these out for fun himself!
Moving into the final 15 mins of the game, disaster from the assistant referee! After seeing a break away from Holderness Utd, a double deflection off Stu Spencer back onto the Holderness winger, led to the ball ricocheting to one of his team-mates in an offside position. Surely the flag would go up? But no, the play was allowed to continue to demoralise any hopes of an equaliser. 0-2 to Holderness Utd.
With 4 mins to play, an offside led to a free kick in Oak's own half. Everyone was flooding forward for the launch up from Rich Wallis.
Wallis had his own ideas after a delay to taking it because of some ex-arsenal player with a long-arse Greek name that was hard to comprehend wanted to come on. Fuck sake ref, I can shit quicker than this is taking!
Finally, the whistle blew, and Wallis launched a worldy from about 60 yards on target, which led the keeper to panic and attempt to save it, but only letting it hit him and go into the net. How the fuck did that happen!?
Oak Road back in the game at 1-2.
Try as Oak may, no further opportunities were given a chance to proceed as Holderness closed out the match which ended the season, and the chance of European football for Oak Road.
We finish the season with a friendly at Hull City Supporters before looking to pre-season in a few months time when it all begins again.
