Match Report - SOUTH REDDITCH EAGLES U14 SAT - 12 Oct 2024

Difficult Saturday for us all without a doubt. A card happy referee certainly made his mark on the game. Anyone looking at the amount of cards given out would have thought it was a rough game, but all I saw was two teams of a similar level playing football in the right spirit. I could see nothing but the 3 points coming back with us on Saturday, but this was not the case.

A goal in the first half and two in the second gave Redditch a 3-0 win which was hard to take, especially as the first 2 we could have prevented. Going a man down in the second half (I am sure a more experienced ref would have handled that situation much differently) and still Redditch did not look any better than us and could not take advantage of the extra man – just shows how hard our boys worked on Saturday with everyone battling with a real fighting team spirit which shows the strength and bond we have in this team.

Man of the match went to Joe – we all know he is a great shot and penalty stopper he is but the last couple of weeks we have been asking Joe to come to the edge of the area when we are in possession in the opposition half and this week he did it brilliantly, and a couple of times swept up behind the back 4 as he had a more advanced starting position. We knew he was capable of this, and it was great to see Joe have the confidence to take on board the instruction and do it. Well done Joe – brilliant performance.
