In a stunning display of attacking football, Newquay AFC Vets faced off against Redruth United Veterans 1st at Mountwise Grounds on 17 November 2024. The match kicked off at 11:00 am and concluded with an astonishing scoreline of 8-0 in favour of the home side, showcasing their dominance throughout the encounter.
Newquay AFC Vets lined up in a 3-4-1-2 formation, designed to maximise their attacking prowess while maintaining a solid defensive structure. Damien Boyle took his place in goal, with a back three comprising Karl Morris, Dave Grose, and Tom Chambers. The midfield was anchored by Adam Weller and Andrew Miles centrally, flanked by serkan Acar on the right and Lee Budge on the left. Lee Rickard operated just behind the two forwards, Ben Colquhoun and Martyn Probert, who were tasked with leading the line and converting chances into goals.
The substitutes for Newquay AFC Vets Steve Capeling, Sean Kilker, Scot Brown, Chris Kelly and Carl Rickard, who would later have an impact on the match as the game progressed.
The scoring began in the 31st minute when winger Serkan Acar found the back of the net, Just three minutes later, Lee Rickard hit an unstoppable drive that struck the post before going in, assisted by the impressive Weller.
The relentless pressure from Newquay continued, and in the 41st minute, Martyn Probert was sent racing clear after a fine through ball from Serkan Acar. And he made no mistake placing a well struck shot past the Redruth keeper.
As the teams returned for the second half, Newquay maintained their momentum. In the 62nd minute, Ben Colquhoun assisted Chris Kelly, who scored with a well-placed shot. Colquhoun then turned scorer himself, netting two goals in quick succession, the first from close range and the second following a precise assist from Lee Budge.
The onslaught continued as Martyn Probert assisted Carl Rickard in the 73rd minute, further extending Newquay's lead. Colquhoun capped off his remarkable performance with yet another goal in the dying moments of the match, bringing the final score to an incredible 8-0.
This match will be remembered not only for the scoreline but also for the sheer dominance displayed by Newquay AFC Vets, who executed their game plan to perfection, leaving Redruth United Veterans with little to show for their efforts. Next week we travel to Culdrose for our next league fixture.
