Home league match
A strong first half showing from Burgh failed to make an impact on visitors Peebles Rovers, and the second half gradually fizzled out despite a late consolation goal.
Jamie Gay had an early chance in the 2nd minute, shooting just wide. Meanwhile in the 9th minute, Hanratty in the Peebles goal showed heroics to stop double efforts from Gay and Cai Macdonald saving really well.
The visitors took the lead in the 12th minute when Kivlichan rose highest to beat his marker to a corner to head down into the net.
Newburgh kept battling away and Andrew Cameron went close with a header from a corner that was pounced on by the Peebles keeper whilst Hanratty was equal to a spectacular volley from Macdonald after a pin-point cross from the left by Gay in the 29th minute.
‘Jives’ sent over another great ball into the box in the 36th minute but Hanratty again was quickest to the ball ahead of Kellar Harris.
The visitors started the second half with their lead looking stronger when Joyce had a chance saved early in the second period by Mark Robertson, whilst another Peebles effort was deflected into the side netting in the 51st minute.
Harris had a good chance a few moments later, but after beating Hanratty to the ball, he was running out of room and could only find the side netting from a tight angle on the right hand side.
Play switched to the other end when Cameron was adjudged to have brought down a Peebles striker in the box and Kivlichan scored his second on the game sending Robertson the wrong way from the spot in the 56th minute.
A quadruple Burgh substitution on the hour mark looked to shake up the game, but the visitors were still looking likely to score again with MacLean blazing over a chance in the 69th minute when he should have scored and Lamb dinked an effort over the Burgh crossbar.
Ruairidh McPhate came close with a chance that just beat the bar at the other end in the 76th minute before Michael Perrie beat keeper and defender to the ball to fire home a consolation goal in the 79th minute.
In the remaining minutes, Newburgh couldn’t complete the comeback and the visitors saw out a 2-1 victory.
