Firstly, apologies for the cheesy headline but it seemed too good an opportunity to miss for those of a slightly older persuasion!
The Burgh were on the road to Ormiston looking to bounce back from last week’s defeat against St. Andrews with the return of a number of recent absentees and the continued recovery from injury of others.
The hosts had the first chance on 6 minutes when Tracey had a shot on the left which was comfortably held by David Chalmers in the Burgh goal. Play switched to the other end from Chalmer’s kick with Kellar Harris and a defender going for the ball but neither able to make contact. ‘Jives’ ran in from the left to unleash a shot which went through the keeper’s hands and into the back of the net. It should have been saved but Jamie Gay wasn’t complaining!
The visitors were looking very sharp at this point with Gay, Rory Marshall and Calum Anderson all looking hungry and playing well. It was 2-0 in the 13th minute when Marshall dispossessed a Ormiston defender on the right and laid the ball off to Gay who unleashed a shot into the far left hand corner from 25 yards.
2-0 nearly became 3-0 just three minutes later when a great turn and shot on the edge of the area from Harris just fizzed over the bar. On the stroke of half time, Andrew Cameron rose highest to meet a corner from the left but his header went past the far post.
The opening half saw the Burgh relatively comfortable but the Burgh lost a bit of their fluidity in the second period without being seriously troubled in defence. Michael Perrie had a low effort saved from an acute angle pushed behind for a corner, whilst Connall White had a chance saved in the 56th minute.
‘Jives’ was eager to look for his hat-trick and he exchanged a neat one-two with sub Hamid Eddouss in the 73rd minute before his shot was blocked by a defender’s legs.
It wasn’t a classic performance from the Burgh after a bright start, but it was good enough to seal the points and another clean sheet that the performance of Cameron, Mitchell, Lawson and Chalmers deserved.
It is easy to perhaps be a bit critical and disappointed with the second half display, but I think that’s a sign of the management team’s high standards and it must be remembered that it was 3 points and a clean sheet, which is something we missed a lot last season and is a continued sign of progress.
