Newburgh faced Hawick at East Shore Park in the League Cup Second Round.

After an even and uneventful first 20 minutes Newburgh started to get a foothold in the game with Jamie Gay on the left inches away from connecting with Kellar Harris and Cai MacDonald in the box. He then saw a free kick sail just over the bar.

Then in the 31st minute, a cross from the right made its way across the box to the left to Gay, he took on the full back and was brought down for a penalty. Gay took the resulting spot kick and sent the ball high into the top of the net for 1-0.

Burgh then put Hawick under some pressure and after a Harris Mitchell long shot went wide, on 39 minutes Kyle Tracey picked the ball up 30 yards out, beat his man and rifled the ball into the top corner past the despairing dive from the goalkeeper.

Newburgh started the second half desperate not to sit on their lead and extended it 9 minutes after the break. After some battling play in the middle of the park the ball was fed to Gay on left his cross shot deceived the keeper and went in off the far post.

Newburgh were not finished there and extended their lead further on 56 minutes when good link up play by the front two saw Macdonald slip in Kellar Harris who slammed the ball high past the keeper.

4-0 and in a commanding lead Hawick got themselves back in the game on 73 minutes as a corner was deflected in at the front post.

Then on 81 minutes Robertson was sent off for foul and abusive language and a freekick was given on the edge of the box. On came David Chalmers whose first job was to pick the ball out the net as the freekick went through the wall for 4-2.

A nervy last 10 minutes was seen out with no real clear cut chances for Hawick.

A great team performance with the bonus of challenging themselves against Hill of Beath in the next round.
