In a crazy ‘bounce game’ against a Kingsway side which borrowed one of our three trialists to make up their numbers, then overcame a 6-3 deficit to win 8-7, an ‘experimental’ Rovers side scored regularly but conceded for fun late on in a dreadful overall display. 16-year-old trialist striker ALI AWAD scored with his first kick, then added a further two before coming off with a foot injury - but you could state that the “top scorers” in both teams were the fill-in goalkeepers and defenders in front of them, aided and abetted by an anonymous midfield. KYLE McCALLUM -thanks to the Kingsway keeper on both occasions - scored twice, HAMZA EBEID also netted and JEBRIL ABDULRAHMAN hit his eight goal of the season before being pressed into service at centre back in an attempt to bolster the struggling defence, which, to an extent, he did. Otherwise, defending, in all areas, at the front, in midfield in particular, and at the back was horrendous as was most players inability to maintain a proper shape, retain possession and understand the basics of defending, reading the game, and when to clear the ball instead of making unnecessary and dangerous passes in defensive areas. Interestingly, many of the problems were caused by the Polish player Olen Shulim, who used to train with us at Coatbridge (see pic below).
