Oli Awakens

Always a good test of where our football ability is at against a physical and relentless Madrid who work hard and try to close the ball. Unfortunately for them we used the pitch and each other to move the ball around with confidence.

Early on the tactic of using the wide players to get behind their defence were working and George and Drew gave them different headaches. Drew's pace and space kept them on the back foot and after 1 or 2 runs in behind Alex W played a lovely ball out to the right corner and Drew charged onto it, this time he decided to go at goal himself and smashed it into the net. 1-0

Drew looked like he would have a field day but on his next attack he went down after another strong run and was unable to continue. As we had a bare 11 this left us down to 10 but Drew was in no state to stay on the pitch.

Despite only having 10 on the pitch the team continued to dominate with Matt, Oscar and Uday winning it in the middle making some simple passes and getting the ball wide.

In defence anything that came through was dealt with confidently and the ball again distributed brilliantly. Aiden and George linked up really well after Drew had to come off.

Half time 1-0

With no options on the bench we started the second half with Drew trying to soldier on through the pain but very quickly it was clear that he couldn't play on. Also no need to change the shape of the team as it was still working.

Oliver in the Midfield was getting lost slightly so we moved him upfront and got Oscar to drop into midfield and Oliver sprung into life. Oscar closed down a defender who tried to shield the ball out of play and stole the ball wide right, he drove into the box before cutting a pass across the box to Oliver who Cooley placed the ball into the net. 2-0

Shortly after we charged them down into their right corner and somehow Uday managed to dig out a cross into the box, this landed in Oli's space and he scooped it into the net. 3-0

Then came an absolute beautiful solo goal as Oliver stole in near the half way line and began to weave in and out of the whole mags team until he was left 1 on 1 with the keeper and like a seasoned pro slipped the ball past the keeper to claim a quick fire hat trick and also steal POTM from Hayden. 4-0.

A great performance and good to see the team let not last week get them down, they proved that their levels are rising and will need to keep this progression to make sure they stay in the tile race.
