An early kick off during the half term break was always going to be difficult one to navigate and a large pitch meant legs and energy would be the calling of the day. We had a team of 11 this time which was an improvement from when we last face Kingsthorne with 9 players.
The game kicked off with Di Stefano in control and pressing forward and getting off some shots although most came from outside the box and went straight at the keeper. Kingsthorne started to grow into the game and their tall strong striker Lucas started to get some space and time on the ball. Out on our right he got the ball and worked it into the box and after a bit of slow reactions on our part one of the Kingsthorne players managed to squeeze the ball in for 0-1.
Not long after this they came down our left side this time and whipped in a cross behind the defence and whilst trying to get something on the clearance Alex turned the ball towards our goal. Toby looked to have this covered but as 2 or 3 platers looked to get something on the ball it made Toby have to change direction a few times which then left him late to turn the ball away and it rolled in at the far post. 0-2
Half-Time
The coach read the riot act at half time dur to the lack of commitment and desire from the team and asked for more in the second half, without any subs it was impossible to change things around too much and give some players a chance to catch their breathes back.
When the second half started the game continued to be end to end and after some play outside the box the ball got knocked into the box and with the ball bouncing George pounced on it and half volleyed the ball into the goal. 1-2
a few minutes immediately after the goal, Matt was trying to shield the ball back to Toby to clear and a last minute mix up meant that the ball was missed by Toby and Lucas rolled the ball into an empty net 1-3.
The game continued in the same fashion with both teams having chances as the game got stretched but the legs of Di Stefano had ran out and the game finished comfortably enough for Kingsthonre.
Full time 1-3
We are now reliant on others teams to do our work now if we want to finish top of the league but these are the games you need to win to keep the pressure on. It's not over yet and we will keep pushing.
POTM Uday who ran all game had most of the possession and drove the team on when he knew their heads were dropping.
