The RAIDERS played their first friendly of the season today away to a strong Walsham side from Division 2. Going into this game Walsham hadn’t lost a friendly and beat the other Moreton Hall div 1 side 8-0 last week.
We asked the RAIDERS to play with intensity, leading from the front with a high press, which nearly resulted in a goal straight from their kick off!
The 0-4 result was actually flattering to Walsham with the RAIDERS having 21 shots to their 3 and on another day the score would have been double figures.
I am absolutely delighted with the way we played and the style of football we delivered. Fast, wide dominate play that they simply couldn’t cope with. Our desire was better, our pace was better, our passing was better and our shape was better.
Lots to work on moving forward but I couldn’t be prouder of this team. We shall make our press even better and set traps to their weaker players letting them have the ball. I will continue to encourage the kids to get wide and pull the other team out of position. I want our defenders getting forward and to follow their passes.
We will continue to play a little with positions before the season kicks off but it’s a joy to already have selection problems! We want competition for places and we certainly have it.
