Driving to the match today with AC/DC pumping out “Thunder-stuck” in the background, I was literally struck myself with an inner feeling of certainty that we would win today.
These RAIDERS are at their best when considered underdogs. I honestly don’t think anybody (apart from our coaches and parents) thought for a second this Trimley team would leave without taking all 3 points. Especially having played the other 3 Moreton hall teams back to back and not conceding a single goal and scoring 25 in the process.
Here’s what they didn’t know or expect. We have a keeper and defence faster than their lethal attack. We have a midfield pairing MORE aggressive and more technical than theirs AND a we have a forward three who chase down every single lost cause and back pass.
Looking back on the game I don’t think we realise just how one sided the first half was
with Trimley not having a single shot on goal. All the credit goes to our boys who all arrived on time and all did the prefect warm up. The mentality today was unbelievable from the very start just as it was against Thetford Bulldogs. I would have liked to have given the boys on bench some first half mins but there wasn’t a single Raider I could take off. I apologised to the subs at half time and through out the first half and their attitude was amazing.
Second half we could see the game becoming more physical with Trimley resorting to some poor challenges in an attempt to slow us down and put us off. The challenge on Oscar being a clear example of blatant cheating and which saw him take no further part in the game. A huge loss for us, but rather than sit back and try to hold on to a 2-1 lead we wanted to push for the third goal and we moved Tay into a more forward position. The result was that Trimley didn’t have another opportunity in the game and we spent the whole 10 mins camped in their half.
A MASSIVE thank you to Heston, Oliver and Fenton. I know that today was a personal disappointment for them all, but we are a Team and I will make it up to you in the weeks ahead.
A special mention to Kara and Wilf for getting their early to fill in all the holes in the pitch with Daves empty coffee cup.
The RAIDERS remain unbeaten. Up next… BURY TOWN.
